Being a wedding musician is more than just playing beautiful music—it's about setting the perfect atmosphere for a couple’s most special day. Here’s a behind-the-scenes look at a typical wedding day as a classical guitarist.
Morning: Preparation & Final Touches
The day begins with a mix of preparation and anticipation. I start by reviewing my setlist, ensuring all pieces are polished and ready. Whether it’s Canon in D, A Beatles tune, or a custom request from the couple, every song is practiced for flawless execution.
I also take time to check my gear—tuning my guitar, replacing strings if needed, and packing essentials like extra cables, a music stand, and a backup power source. A well-prepared musician is a stress-free musician!
Afternoon: Traveling to the Venue & Sound Check
Arriving at the venue early is key. I like to get there at least an hour before the ceremony to set up, get a feel for the acoustics, and coordinate with the wedding planner or officiant. Outdoor weddings, in particular, can have unexpected challenges like wind or ambient noise, so adjusting my positioning and sound accordingly is crucial.
I also do a quick run-through of key pieces—especially processional and recessional songs—to ensure everything sounds just right.
Ceremony: The Magic Begins
Once guests start arriving, I transition into light prelude music, setting a romantic and welcoming atmosphere. Then, the real magic happens—playing the couple’s chosen processional song as they walk down the aisle. There’s something truly special about knowing my music is underscoring such an emotional moment.

If I’m performing during dinner, I adjust my repertoire to keep the vibe intimate but engaging. Every wedding is different, and reading the room is key—some couples want traditional pieces, while others love a classical twist on modern hits.
